A note from the President

August, 2008

Each year, the incoming LAAIW president receives a present from the out-going president that I have dubbed the Memory Box.  It is a very heavy, large box of memos, invitations, surveys and whatever else you can imagine, going back as far as 1978 – well, that’s as far as I made it.  Walking down memory lane is quite inspirational!

Did you know that the LAAIW was formed 48 years ago? A lot has changed in the investment world since May 1960 but the LAAIW has remained consistent with its goal of providing an opportunity for women to build professional relationships and provide a forum for the exchange of ideas and information.  We have offered educational and career-building workshops, entertaining social events and an invaluable forum for smart, ambitious women in the Investment arena to meet and support one another.  Feedback is critical to the growth and development of an organization and thus I would encourage each of you to complete the attached survey or feel free to submit your ideas to anyone on the board.

I would like to thank our Past President, Akiko Hatata for her years of service on the board and for the Memory Box!  I would also like to announce the new board:

Ana Echeverria, Vice President
Irene Nakamura, Treasurer
Suzanne Highet Kaiser, Membership
Kathryn Benjamin, Secretary

Our first meeting is scheduled for September 25, 2008 at 4pm at the Biltmore. This is a fun meeting and complementary to members and guests.  Please feel free to invite as many people as you like who might find membership in LAAIW beneficial.   Be sure to let us know who your guests are through Evite so we are prepared.

One of the line items on the Board’s agenda this summer was the membership fee and as I perused through the Memory Box, it occurred to me that we have maintained a constant fee for many, many years.  However, inflation has hit the LAAIW.  Most of our expenses are related to our luncheons, and prices have gone up over the years.  We will therefore increase the membership fee to $150 this year.

I’m proud to be a part of this organization and hope that this year brings each of you success.

Sincerely,

Denise Ellyson
President 2008-2009, LAAIW
